Guest Arrival Instructions
SUNSET BEACH RESORT
Ocean Front Belize Vacation Condos in Belize
San Pedro, Ambergris Caye Belize

GENERAL ARRIVAL INSTRUCTIONS

HOW TO GET FROM  BELIZE CITY TO AMBERGRIS CAYE:  The resort is 30 miles from Belize City on the island of Ambergris Caye, less than three miles south of the San Pedro airstrip.  Fly internationally into Belize City (BZE) and then take a 15 minute flight to San Pedro (SPR) or a 2 hour water taxi. The charter flight must be scheduled prior to departing from your trip.  This charter can be arranged through our reservation's staff.

TWO CHOICES TO GET TOO THE ISLAND:

#1 The easiest and most popular way from Belize City to San Pedro is by taking a 15 minute puddle jumper flight from BZE (Same airport you land).  Flights leave hourly and cost approximately $160 round trip.

#2  The more economical way to the island is to take the water taxi which takes approximately two hours from beginning to end.  The cost of the water taxi is approximately $20 one way plus a $30 cab ride to the boat.

CAB PICK-UP: Once I know your arrival time and method, I will coordinate our preferred cab driver, Manolo Contreras, to pick you up and transport you back to your condo.  If Manolo is not there to get you, please have the Tropic/Water taxi staff call him at 627-0177 or 668-6845.   On your way to the condo, be sure to ask Manolo  lots of questions about the island.  He is both delightfully reliable and knowledgeable. The cab will cost approximately $10 USD. I will also schedule them to pick you up at the end of your trip and transport you back to town. Please make sure you have his business card on hand.

KEY EXCHANGE/CHECK-IN: Please note that check-in is 3 p.m. and check out is 11 am. If the condo is ready, we will let you in early.  If not, we will do our best to help you store your luggage.   Our Resident Grounds Keeper, Chapin (Chop'-pen) PH: 620-6203 will present your key and condo instructions. Chapin lives on site in the small blue building behind building C. Chapin is on duty from 6 am to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. He is the one you need to ask for the bike locks, kayaks, water inner tubes, corn hole game and pool volleyball set.

IMPORTANT: at 5 pm following the day you check-in, a member of ISLAND CONCIERGE  will stop by and fill out the Belize Tourism Paperwork required for all tourists and answer any additional questions you may have.

IF YOU  DECIDE TO TAKE A CHARTER FLIGHTS:  The 15 minute charter flight is preferred by most since it gets you to the island quickly and more comfortably. I am a Tropic Air Agent and would be happy to arrange your charter flights for you.  This is a free service that I offer and actually prefer to do it for guests so we can be better prepared for your arrival. Also, if your international flight is delayed (which happens quite frequently), you will need to have your charter flight rescheduled. Simply email/call me (313)910-5243/ debneisius@gmail.com  from the airport and I'll swiftly take care of the details for you and place you first on the next available flight.  Order flights with this link:  https://fs11.formsite.com/dneis/form1/index.html

IF YOU DECIDE TO GET TO THE ISLAND  BY WATER TAXI: The water taxi takes 30 minutes to get to the water taxi boat from the airport.  You can arrange a shuttle ahead of time with a company called “Belize shuttles & Transfers”.   The  taxi boat ride is 1 hour and 20 minutes to Ambergris Caye.  The San Pedro Belize Water Taxi Express' website is http://www.belizewatertaxi.com.   If you arrive into BZE anytime after 4:15, you should schedule the charter because there is a good chance you will not make it in time and spending the night in Belize City is far from appealing. NOTE: We recommend all our guests use the San Pedro Belize Express Water Taxi because they drop off in center of town.  There is no need to book the water taxi in advance unless you have a very large group (10 or more).

WHEN YOU ARRIVE:  When you arrive on the island our preferred cab driver, Manolo Contreras will retrieve you.  Don't worry about finding him, he will find you!  The cab drivers typically line up behind baggage claim and ask passengers where they are staying. Everyone knows we work with Manolo.  We've been working with Manolo for several years.  When Manolo picks you up,  he will notify the staff that you are on your way to make sure the key will be ready for you.  Our live-in caretaker, Chapin, will answer any questions and fix any problems with the facilities during your stay.

GOLF CART: I highly recommend having a golf cart during yours stay. They are both fun and convenient. I have yet to hear a guest regret getting one. They are an island thrill ride in themselves and there isn't a more fun way to explore the island. I also recommend having one your entire stay since renting 4 days costs nearly the same as renting 7 days. I will coordinate delivery of your cart to your condo shortly after you arrive. If you have not arranged your cart yet you can do so now at:

ORDER GOLF CART/VIEW RATES NOW:  (Click Here)

AFTER YOU ARRIVE:   I will help you efficiently get to the island and provide all the information you need to have a successful vacation.  I will personally book your golf cart,  book your charter flights,  schedule your cab rides,  arrange your golf cart pick-up & delivery and provide valuable tips for your trip.  When you arrive on the island, we will send our preferred cab driver, Manolo Contreras, to retrieve you.  We've been working with Manolo for several years and he will notify the staff you are on your way to make sure the key will be ready for you.  Our live-in caretaker, Chapin, will answer any questions and fix any problems with the facilities during your stay.  The day after you arrive, we will send our island concierge, Rosa, to visit you in your condo to fill out the tourism paperwork.  She can schedule tours and answer questions. You may also walk into the Suya Tour office located behind building C and schedule tours (diving/fishing/snorkeling/mainland tours). During your stay, our housekeeper, Janet, will make sure your condo is spotless upon arrival and well stocked with all the linens you need during your stay.  If you stay more than 10 days, you get a complimentary mid-week cleaning.  If you would like additional housekeeping at your own expense, Janet can easy arrange it.  We do have a coin-operated laundry building on-site, but many guests prefer to use Irma's pick-up/drop-off laundry service which can be found in the condo notebook.

TIPS ON PURCHASING GROCERIES AND DUTY FREE LIQUOR/WINE:    If you drink we suggest to stock at the Belize Duty Free store BEFORE going through Belize Customs.  Imported alcohol is very very expensive here and if you buy at the Belize Duty Free you are allowed up to 4 Liters per adult.  You’ll realize how good a deal they are after you’ve seen the prices on the island.  You will not be allowed to carry them onto the Tropic Air flight, it will have to be checked in, ask Duty Free for a box and give the Tropic Air bag handler a little tip and ask him to put “fragile” stickers on that bag and you’ll be all set

PRE-ORDERING GROCERIES:  Order by logging onto http://www.matagrandegrocery.com/home.html  or www.lagniappe.com  and following their website instructions.  The supplier will need to coordinate delivery to your condo with our caretaker.

HAVE CAB DRIVER STOP BY A STORE ON WAY TO RESORT:  Have your taxi driver stop at Marina’s or Super Buy-South.  Tell the guests to stop ONLY at these 2 stores .  We have had several reports of other stores overcharging tourists and we know these 2 stores are honest.  There will be an additional charge of $10 BZ paid to the taxi driver for his wait time while you shop.

NEARBY GROCERY STORE:  There is a small grocery about a half block away from Caribe Island and Sunset Condos at the end of our street called Marin's Store (1 miles north of Hol Chan Resort).  Hours are 7 AM to 7 PM.  Their prices are very fair and they stock most of the basics a guest would want. NOTE:  Cash only.  Either US dollars or BZ $ are accepted.  Change will probably be in BZ $.

HOW MUCH AND WHAT TYPE OF MONEY SHOULD I BRING?:    The Belize dollar is tied to the U.S. dollar at a fixed 2(BZ)=1(USD).  U.S. dollars are accepted everywhere.  Canadian , Mexican and  European monies are not widely accepted.  Belize Bank has an ATM in San Pedro.  There is no need to exchange currency before arriving.  Most places accept U.S. Dollars and major credit cards.  However,  some will charge a 4% processing fee for credit cards.
